Activities planned during Fandangle

Visitors and locals alike will be able to enjoy a host of activities offered in Albany this weekend and next during performance dates for the Fort Griffin Fandangle. Free events will be offered on all four of those days including a quilt show, tracker organ concert, calliope concert, car museum, viewing the animals on the courthouse square, exhibits and activities at the Old JailArt Museum, plus several others.

Tuesday was the perfect time for the Shackelford County Library children’s hour to feature a program on longhorns, coinciding with the opening of this year’s production of the Fandangle. Elementary children were treated to a display of horns and hides inside the library before heading outside to get a close up view of the actual longhorns, brought to town from Fort Griffin by herd manager Will Cradduck along with Frank Sharp.

Hamilton earns Harding degree

Brian Hamilton of Albany is one of more than 700 students who received diplomas and were recognized as Harding University graduates during the Spring 2024 commencement ceremony on May 4, 2024. Hamilton received a Bachelor of Business Administration in finance.

Weekend golf tournament draws 39 teams

The team of Nelson, Nelson, and Nelson closed with the tournament’s low round to win the Championship Flight of theAlbany Golf Club’s Father’s Day Tournament, played Saturday- Sunday, June 15-16 at Albany Golf Course. The winning trio shot 60-56–116 to make up a two-stroke deficit and top two other teams by three shots.

More than 40 players signed up to participate in the Albany Pickleball League. Organizer Chelsea Parsons said 10 teams will compete in women’s doubles with about a dozen inmixed.Someplayerswill compete in both divisions.

ResourceCare is accepting sponsorships for its Summer Day Camp which starts Monday, July 8. “We don’t have a deadline for those wishing to help sponsor this year,” said Mindy Ary, ResourceCare director.

Albany Little League All-Star teams will have to take the long way if they are to advance in the Texas WestLittleLeagueDistrict 5 All-Star Tournament. All-Star play began Monday, June 17 with Albany hosting Jim Ned in both Majors and Minors age groups.

Albany finishes in top 20 schools

For the third year in a row, Albany has finished in the top 20 schools in the Class 2A UIL Lone Star Cup standings. The Lone Star Cup is awarded annually to six high schools, one in each of the six UIL classifications.
