Eight students from the Nancy Smith Elementary School gifted and talented program got a view of the world and beyond on Thursday, Nov. 10 during a field trip to the Frontiers of Flight Museum at Dallas Love Field.

Students Trevor Bella, Artie Bell, Kingston Balliew, Tanner Howe, Berkley Davis, Reece Nitschke, Kurt Strauss, and Benjamin Gullett were accompanied by teacher Melissa Fields and principal John Gallagher on the excursion.

“It was an opportunity for STEM experiences,” Fields said. “It was exposure that students wouldn’t be able to get in the classroom. We saw big planes and space videos.”

The program included special speakers and classroom discussion followed by a STEM career day challenge. Students then toured the Frontiers of Flight Museum, located in a former historic hangar that was renovated in 2004 to house exhibits.

“It was a really cool place,” Fields said. “This was our first year to go. We’re usually just able to go to Abilene and the closer places, but we thought this was a great opportunity.”
