Eight youth from Shackelford County went to a Multi-County 4-H Camp at Buffalo Gap last week, along with local extension agent Michaela Bradford and 4-H members and leaders from Jones, Nolan, Fisher, Coke, and Sterling counties.

“On Thursday, they played team building and leadership games, and then they had a dance that evening,” said Bradford. “The following day they were divided into groups based on grade level and participated in team competitions. Later they swam in the pool before we came home.”

Shackelford County youth attending the camp this year included Jake Hale, Cache Clark, Paisley Clark, Will LeMay, Mimi Ivy, Laithe Leech, Kenzie Neve, and Charlee Patterson.

The Shackelford County 4-H kick-off party, which typically occurs in August, is not scheduled at this time.

Bradford is leaving the extension service to accept a new position with the Albany Independent School District, and her replacement as the county agent and 4-H leader has not yet been named.

“I’ve been told it will be at least a three-month process,” said Bradford.

Extension office job applications are first made available to current Texas AgriLife employees. If the positions are not filled from within the agency, the postings are opened up to the general public.
