4-Hers place at shooting contest

Shackelford County 4-H members had a solid showing Saturday, April 15 at the Texas 4-H Shooting Sports Extravaganza.
Landon Kreitler took first place in both senior skeet and senior sporting clay in the competition held at the Texas 4-H Conference Center at Lake Brownwood.
Landon Herrell placed third in intermediate skeet and fourth in intermediate sporting clay.
Carly Kreitler was second in junior air pistol silhouette and fifth in junior air pistol. Tanner Howe was fourth in junior air pistol silhouette.
“The Shooting Sports program is going really well, especially our shotgun group,” Shackelford County extension agent Kelsey Bell said. “I’m really happy to have that many kids participate in Shooting Sports. One of our goals for this year was to grow that program.”
While a number of club members were unable to compete due to performing in the Fort Griffin Fandangle Sampler held Saturday night, Bell said they will have other opportunities.
“A portion of the State 4-H Shooting Sports Games will be in Callahan County this year,” she said. “We’re hoping because of the close proximity that some kids will want to continue on.”
District Roundup
A handful of 4-Hers will compete in the District 7 Roundup on Friday, April 28 at San Angelo.
“This is mainly public speaking, educational presentations, and a contest called Share the Fun, which is the talent show, but there a lot of different categories within those contests,” Bell said. “Events will be held at three different locations. We have some educational presentations and one in the talent show.”
May Meeting
Bell said a date and location for the May club meeting has not been finalized, but said it will be “very important.”
“This year, we’re going to do our officer elections in May for next year so we have the summer with those kids for a possible leadership lab. I’m taking officer applications right now. I’ll poll those kids on a date that will work for them so they can be there to do their speeches.”
Applications for officer positions are due to Bell by Friday, April 21.
Bell also announced the club’s next community service project.
“Our May community service will be a community pantry,” she said. “We’re still working out the details, but it will be come-and-go. And it will be open for people in the community to come and get what they need.”
