Shackelford County 4-H is starting two of its project programs this week.

The food and nutrition program will have its first meeting at 3:45 p.m. Thursday (today) at Nancy Smith Elementary School, while the equine program will hold a horse clinic at 6:00 p.m. at the county show barn.

“These meeting will just be initial information about what’s coming up in the year,” Shackelford County extension agent Kelsey Bell said. “We’re still  at the point that kids can come and get enrolled.”

Bell said the programs are open to all 4-Hers.

“You do not have to have a horse,” she said. “We have options for those who don’t have their own horses.”

Adult leaders for equine projects are Alicia Burton and Heather Nitschke.

For information, contact Burton at 979-575-7875 or Nitschke at 325-232-3303.

Bell said parents were asked to attend the foods and nutrition meeting with their 4-Hers.

“Kids will be split up into teams and get information for different contests,” Bell said.

Kelli Kreitler will serve as the project leader. For more information, contact Kreitler at 325-603-1818.

Bake Sale

Members of the cooking program will take part in a bake sale from noon to 2:00 p.m. Sunday at The Feed Store.

“We have an ongoing service project for hurricane victim relief,” Bell said. “Proceeds from that will go to buy bug repellent for workers in affected areas.”
