York, Hise advance to regional

The Moran boys doubles pair of Caleb York and Ellis Hise won a playback Monday, April 22 at the District 13-1A tennis tournament to qualify for regional competition.

The Region II-1A tournament will be played Thursday-Friday, May 9-10 at San Angelo.

York and Hise are the first Moran tennis entry to advance out of district since Hannah Rogers and Corey Miller qualified in mixed doubles in 2021.

Chase Murk played boys singles at district.

The trio tuned up for district Thursday, April 18 with the Santa Anna tournament, which was played at Early High School and Howard Payne University.

The district tournament was played at Brownwood High School.

SANTA ANNA

York and Hise lost 0-8 to Menard, lost 2-6 to Lohn.

In singles, Murk lost 1-7 to Sidney, lost 1-6 to Lometa.

DISTRICT TOURNAMENT York and Hise lost to Eula 0-6, 2-6 in the semifinals, def. Eula #2 6-0, 6-1 in the third place match to earn the playback, def. Rising Star 6-0, 6-1 to decide the regional berth.

IMurk def. McGinn of Rising Star 6-4, 7-5, lost 1-6, 1-6 to Dyer of Baird, lost 1-6, 0-6 to Sandifer of Eula in the third place match.

Junior High

Moran will compete in the junior high district tennis tournamentWednesday, May 1 at Eula.

Coach Jo Hise said she expects about six players to compete.
