MHS tennis teams to compete in Abilene JV tourney

The Moran Bulldogs and Lady Bulldogs had their second outing of the track and field season was hed out Saturday, March 16 when the Possum Kingdom Relays at Graham were called off because of weather.

Mormon Athletes Return To action Thursday, March 21 (today) at May.

Two Moran tennis entries – boys doubles and mixed doubles – took part inadual match Wednesday, March20, at Baird. Results will be reported next week.

A boys doubles team will compete Thursday, March21(today)at the Abilene High JV tournament. Moran will also compete Monday, March 25, at the Zephyr tournament.

Before taking last week off for spring break, Moran competed in junior high and elementary meets.

The junior high teams made their second out of the spring Tuesday, March 5 at Rising Star. The junior high teams competed Tuesday, March 19 at Blanket. Results will be reported next week The elementary athletes competed Saturday, March 9 at May. Their next meet is Saturday, March 23 at Rising Star.

Junior High

At Rising Star, Moran claimed 27 places, 15 by girls and 12 by boys.

“The kids competed well,” coach John Hughes said. “We did have some improvements from the Breckenridge meet.”

For the girls team, the 400 relay of Kelsey Rust, Caliann Carroll, Kaylee Sanchez, and Lizzie Creek was second with the same quartet third in the 800 relay and fifth in the 1600 relay. Creek also placed sixth in the high jump and competed in the long jump. Carroll Also Competed In The high jump and long jump.

Four girls placed in two events. Seriah Henson was second in the 2400 and fifth in the 1600. Lilianna Rodriguez was third in the 100 and fifth in the 200, in addition to competing in the shot put and discus. Jaeleigh Stelzig was fifth in the 100 and 200. Amelia York was sixth in the 100 and fifth in the 200.

Emmie Hise finished fourth in the 1600. Naomi Garza and Raelynn Henderson each placed fifth in the400aswellascompeting in the 800.

The boys claimed firstplace finishes from Christian Rodriguez in the 100 andAndyBarroninthe300 hurdles. Barron was also fourth in the 110 hurdles and sixth in the high jump in addition to competing in the long jump. Rodriguez added a fifth-place finish in the 200.

Jason Burge placed second in the 400 and third in both the 100 and 200. Dylan Herrod was fifth in the200andsixthinboththe 100 and 400. Zeke Henson finished fifth in the shot put and sixth in the 1600.

Also competing were James Hise in the high jump, long jump, and 1600, Tim Hinkle in the 800 and the 1600, and Miguel Rodriguez in the shot put and discus.

Elementary

At May, Moran claimed 29 places, 18 by boys.

For the girls, Alexis Whitehill was sixth in the 100, 400, and 200 and also competed in the long jump and high jump. Kamilia Alexander was fifth in the 400 and sixth in the 100 in addition to competing in the long jump and high jump. Zaylee Smith finished sixth in four events – 400, 200, shot put, and discus. Demi Sebree was fifth in the 100 and also competed in the shot put and discus.

For the boys, Myles Sebree was first in the 100, fourth in the long jump and high jump, and sixth in the 200.

Ryker York was second in both the shot put and discus, fourth in the 50, and fifth in the 100.

Legend Sebree was fourth in the discus, fifth in the 50, and sixth in the 100 and shot put.

Eli Clark was fourth in the100andsixthinthe200. He also competed in the long jump and high jump.

Zayden Alexander was fourth in the 200, sixth in the 100, and competed in the long jump and high jump. Michael Courtney was fourth in the 200 in addition to competing in the shot put and discus. Gabe Carroll was fifth in the 100 and also competed in the shot put and discus.
