Moran FFA stood out Monday, March 25 at the Agriculture Engineering CDE in Abilene with an all-girl team competing in welding.

The quartet of Kielar Carr,RayniVinson,Bradee Stautzenberger, and Jayla Bussell have been working under the tutelage of teacher Robert Stanley.

While Moran did not advance in the competition, superintendent Dr. John Denson noted only one other girl participated.

“We’re proud of these girls,” Denson said.

The CDE was the midpoint of a busy stretch for Moran. On Friday, March 22,24studentscompetedin meet judging, horse judging and veterinary science events at West TexasA&M in Canyon, then competed the next day at Clarendon College.

The meat judging team of Vinson, Caleb York, Ellis Hise, Cotten Campbell, Landon Herrell, Max Oliver, and Christian Rodriguez placed19thatWTand 11th at Clarendon. In the latter event, Hise scored 730 points, getting 298 out of a possible 300 in placing classesand264outof380in retail ID. Campbell scored 288 in placing classes and 235 in retail ID.

The horse judging team competed without a team member who was unable tomakethetrip.Theshorthanded group of LeAnna Sikes, Miguel Rodriguez and Zech Henderson was 51st at WT and 50th at Clarendon.

Invetscience,Stautzenberger, Bussell, Kacenda Thompkins, MaeKayla Kersey, Chase Murk, Kaylee Sanchez, and Briley Chadwickwere29thatWT and 18th at Clarendon.

On Wednesday, March 27, meat and vet teams attended the Hill Country CDE in Fredericksburg. All three teams will compete Friday, April 5 at San Angelo with meat judging going to Lubbock on Saturday, April 6.

Family Game Night Moran will hold Family Game Night at 6:00 p.m. Thursday, March 28 (tonight) at Moran Event Center.

Moran PTO will provide hotdogs, chips and water.

“Students from each grade level will register and we’ll do drawings for door prizes,” Jo Hise said.

Prom Time

The Moran prom is scheduled for April 6 at the at Moran Events Center, but the time is being delayed to accommodate students who will be in Lubbock that day.

The prom is open to all high school students and their dates.

“Anyone from outside the district needs prior approval,”Moranprincipal JoHisesaid.“DolorisLonderholm and Kimberly York will provide the food for it.”
