Bulldogs to open against Benjamin

By Kathy Thomson

The Moran Bulldogs finished preseason scrimmages last Friday in Gustine, started this week by greeting children arriving at the Moran campus for the first day of school on Monday, and are scheduled to open the 2019 football season in Benjamin tomorrow, Aug. 30 with a 7:30 p.m. kickoff.

“The scrimmage last Friday went well,” said head coach John Hughes. “During our 15-play series on offense, we were able to score three times on four drives, and during our defensive series of 15 plays we gave up two scores. Overall, I was pleased with the outcome, although the scrimmage was cut short due to the weather.”

Hughes said that the team still needs to fix a few mental mistakes but had already shown improvement from the first set of scrimmages on Aug. 16.

Last Tuesday, Aug. 20, the Bulldogs postponed practice until after the conclusion of the girls’ first home volleyball game.

“We had what was probably one of our best practices so far this young season,” said Hughes. “We brought them out under the lights of Bulldog Stadium, and they got after it. We even had some community members out watching and getting a glimpse of what could possibly be a great team.”

An even larger home crowd was on hand for the annual Meet the Bulldogs event on Thursday, Aug. 22.
