Please Don’t Climb!

As I looked across the street this morning, I saw a herd of boys headed to the practice field. Yes, it’s that time...football season.

In 2007, we had an ex-student who wanted to donate something very special for our football stadium. He wanted his gift donated in honor of one of his best friends...Johnny King.

In 1960 and1961, our LIONS won back to back State Championships.

Johnny did not play football; he was small in size but had a huge heart. He may not have played football, but he played in the band, and boy, could he play a trumpet. There were times when our Lions would need just a few yards to get that first down or that touchdown. That was when Johnny would stand up and play the cavalry charge. The fans would come alive, and it seemed we always got those few extra yards needed.

The Lion statues that are at our stadium entrance were given as a donation, at no cost at all to the school district. Twice in the last 12 years, one of the lions has suffered breakage. This is caused by crawling and sitting on the statues. We have had them repaired twice. Parents, please let your children know that the statues are not toys. Climbing on the Lion statues is not allowed.

We can all remember our moms saying (many times), “You can look, but don’t touch.” Well, you can look all you want, but don’t climb.

These are beautiful Lions and they make our stadium entrance very special. Let’s all be good caretakers of our property.
