The National Weather Service will conduct a SkyWarntrainingprogram at 6:30 p.m. Monday, April 15 at the Albany Volunteer Fire Department station.

Albany VFD Chief Joel Viertel said the program, which is being presented by NWS Science and Operations Officer Steve Harrison, will teach local residents how to identify severe weather events.

“Themainobjectivesare to learn about main severe weather hazards, basics of severeweatherforecasting, and warnings processed from the NWS,” Viertel said.“He’llteachmethodsof what to read in the clouds, monitoringsevereweather, and various methods emergency managerscanreceive watches, advisories, and warnings from the NWS.”

Viertel said the recent thunderstorm that struck Albany on April 1 should be reason enough to learn moreaboutsevereweather.
