Soil, water conservation encouraged

The week of April 28 through May 5 has been proclaimed as Soil & Water Stewardship Week in Shackelford County, with anofficialdocumentsigned at the end of Monday’s regular county commissioners meeting by county judge John Viertel.

The commissioners typically approve a similar proclamation every year.

It had been requested earlier in the month by JohnTate, boardchairman for the Lower Clear Fork of the Brazos Soil and Water Conservation District.

The 2024 theme for Texas Soil & Water Stewardship Week is “May the Forest Be With You Always,”withanemphasis on protecting and conserving Texas forests.

The local proclamation encourages county residents to help maintain area resources, including fertile soil and clean water.

“Stewardship calls for each person to help conserve these resources,” Viertel said.
