As Shackelford County begins to throw off the blankets and move from winter into spring, preparations are being made for severe weather that oftenaccompanieswarmer temperatures.

Activities include a local Skywarn class for storm spotters and weather drills at the Albany schools.

Local Skywarn Class A SkyWarn class will be held in Albany this spring, set for April 15 at the Albany Volunteer Fire Department Station.

A National Weather Service representative will conduct the class, which is open to first responders and anyone else who is interested.

It will begin at 6:30 p.m.

Weather Drills

Students at Nancy Smith Elementary School will probably practice their severe weather preparedness this week, according to NSES principal John Gallagher.

“We are planning to complete our tornado and additional weather-related school safety drills this week, depending on the weather” he said on Tuesday.

Typically, the drill is not scheduled at a set time so administrators can see how well the staff and students are prepared.
