Prairie Star to reopen April 8
After closing its doors about a year ago, a local convenience store is slated to reopen on April 8 under new ownership and management following renovations and repairs.
Known for the last 24 years as Prairie Star, the business will continue to operate under the previous name and will be managed by local resident Shana Hogue, who herself has over 16 years of experience in the grocery store business.
The owner of the property, which includes self-service fuel pumps, is Gary Garrison of Graham, operating under the name of All-Star Fuels.
“We have been supplying Prairie Star with fuel for the last 20 years and are excited to be able to open the store to the public once again,” Garrison said.
The local business has continued to offer self-service fuels since the change in ownership, but closed the store portion for remodeling.
Hogue said that she started working at the store on Monday and will be there during the day for anyone interested in applying for a position.
“We are taking applications for assistant manager, experienced cooks, and cashiers,” she said. “One of the main requirements will be providing friendly service.”
She added that fuel customers can now come in to use the remodeled restroom facilities or get a fountain drink.
Both restrooms were completed remodeled and enlarged,whiletheinterior was painted or restained.
“Most of the A/C and cooler units have been replaced or repaired too,” she said. “We have also cleared out several of the fixtures to open the place up more.”
Prairie Star will continue to provide Hunts Pizza, burgers, fries, salads, sandwiches, and fresh baked cookies, plus a large assortmentoffountainand bottled drinks.
“We are adding fried chicken to the everyday menu, along with chicken wings and snack foods.” she said. “There will be a small section of necessities typically offered by convenience stores as well.”
She added that other food items may be added after the opening.
Tentatively, the store hours will be 6:00 a.m. until 10:00 p.m. daily, including weekends.
