Lapp, Hise to compete at regional

Two Moran High School tennis teams competed at the Region 3-A meet at Whitney last Thursday, April 18, and although the season ended for both the girls doubles team of Kaylin New and Hannah Rogers and the boys doubles team of Kobee Lapp and Harley Schafer at the regional meet, coach Jo Hise praised her athletes for all of their efforts over the year.  

“I’m very proud of how these teams played and represented Moran ISD,” she said. “We had a wonderful season, and I’m looking forward to another great season next year.”

New and Rogers won the District 20-A girls doubles championship on April 1 at Eastland to qualify for regionals, while Lapp and Schafer were the district runner up in boys doubles.

First and second place winners at the regional tournament at Whitney advanced to the state tournament in College Station on May 16-17.

Region 3-A Track Meet

Kobee Lapp and Johnnie Hise will both represent Moran at the Region 3-A track meet at Whitney High School located at 1501 N. Brazos in Whitney on Friday, April 26 and Saturday, April 27.

Lapp qualified with a first in triple jump and fourth place finishes in both the long jump and the high jump.

Johnnie Hise advanced to regionals with a third place at area in the 800 meter run.

The boys long jump finals is at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, April 26.

Lapp will return to compete in the boys high jump finals at 9:00 a.m. on Saturday, followed by the triple jump boys finals at 11:00 a.m.

Johnnie Hise will take to the track for the 800 meter run finals at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday.

Spectator admission at the regional track meet is $5 for students and $10 for adults each day.

Girls Doubles

Kaylin New and Hannah Rogers lost to a team from Brooksmith 4-6, 2-6. 

Boys Doubles

Kobee Lapp and Harley Schafer lost to a team from Midway 2-6, 2-6.
