A positive atmosphere greeted members of the Shackelford CountyYouth and Livestock Show Association at their annual meeting held Tuesday, April 16, according to board president Bronco Askew, “The money spent on renovations to the stock show barn paid off substantially,” Askew said.

He went on to say that the association was fortunate to have had such a tremendous year considering there were so many generous donations to the building fund.

“Gross proceeds from the stock show itself came in at about $171,000, up around 48% from last year,” Askew said. “The bidders pool jumped about 40%, which was also a welcome surprise,” Askew urged bidders to get their money in as soon as possible so that the exhibitors can be paid.

Other business discussed during last week’s meeting included the process of getting internet installed at the show barn.

“It sure would make things easier than pen and pencil,” Askew commented. “We are also planning to have insulation installed at the steer barn in time for next year’s pig sale and stock show.”

In other business, new directors were named at the meeting, including Sage Spencer replacing her father Mike Parsons, who has been a director for over 40 years.

Other directors named were Wesley Turner and Dena Denton.

Association officers were elected as follows: Askew – president,Austin Sherwood – vice president, Tisha Wilkins – secretary, and Molly Cauble – treasurer.
