County 4-Hers qualify for state

Shackelford County horsejudgingteamsplaced well Friday, April 5 at the District 7 Horse Judging contest in San Angelo with the senior team qualifying for state for the second year in a row.

Madailein Beard, Grace Fry, and Faith Fry finished second in the senior team standings with Faith Fry first individually and Grace Fry sixth. The trio will attend the State 4-H RoundupinJuneatCollege Station.

The contest was held in conjunction with the Angelo State Career Development Event with 4-H results sorted out from the overall competition.

“The scoring for the overall contest is done a bitdifferently,”Shackelford County extension agent Kelsey Bell said. “That contest had almost 400 individuals and close to 100 teams.”

With FFA teams included, the senior team finished second with Faith Fry third individually and Beard 11th.

In the junior division, theteamofRainyNitschke, Cody Fry, Artie Bell, and Carly Kreitler finished third. The team of Ayers Bezner, Reese Nitschke, Kerrigan Howard, and Baigh Bell placed fourth.

Individually, Artie Bell was third in addition to placing second in Reasons. “Juniors do not have to give a Reasons speech, but if they choose to, they are scored,” Kelsey Bell said.

Bezner finished fifth individually with Reese Nitschke seventh, Kreitler eighth, and Cody Fry 10th.

“It’s great to have a group that’s this consistent,” Kelsey Bell said.
