A capital outlay budget for thenextfiscalyearwasreviewed and passed by the Albany city council during an hour-long session on Monday, April 8 at City Hall.

Council members also approved Albany Volunteer Fire Department’s request to purchase equipment, as well as to sell a vehicle.

Also discussed during the meetingwasconcernthatnoone had applied to manage the city pool,withnoapparentprospects as the summer months near.

Mayor Susan Montgomery also commented that there didn’t seem to be as many nonlicensed students driving golf carts on city streets since the formal warning was posted in the newspaper last month.

“Ithinkitdidalotofgood,and I thank all the parents who took it to heart,” Montgomery said.

Capital Outlay Budget City manager Billy Holson presented an updated Capital Improvements Budget that showed projections for expenditures over the next five years.

Big ticket items in the $532,000totalforthe2024-2025 fiscal year includes $150,000 for street repair, $150,000 for waterlinereplacements,$60,000 for a trailer-mounted “hydro vac” for the distribution department, $40,000 each for two new vehicles, $30,000 to finish up replacement of water meters with remote monitors, and $40,000 for a tractor at the airport.

“Sometimes we don’t get to all these projects, and we kick them back a year,” Holson said.

Fire Department Requests Fire chief Joel Viertel asked for and received permission to sell Rescue 5, a 2005 Ford 2-wheel drive that is titled to thecity.Theproceedswillfunnel through the city to the AVFD’s restricted account.

The council also approved the purchase of seven sets of Wildlandgearforabout$10,500.

Other Business

•Nancy Hill asked to be on theMayagendaregardingswim lessons at the city pool.

•The council reappointed Randall Palmore to the West Central Texas Municipal Water District’s board of directors.

•A required confidentiality resolutionforallmunicipalcourt staff was approved.
