A final count on Christmas food baskets was not available at press time, with members of the Albany Ministerial Alliance still working to collect all the applications.
Alliance treasurer Tom Chandler said Tuesday that 80 requests had been received so far, but there may be some that have yet to be turned in.
The Christmas baskets will be assembled at the Feed Store this year.
“We are hoping to be able to put dry goods into the boxes ahead of time, and just add the frozen items at the last minute,” said Chandler. “We are trying to make sure that we can have them all ready for delivery at 3:00 p.m.”
The applications for Christmas baskets were due by Dec. 1 so that food orders could be placed in time to have the items on hand by Dec. 17, when the baskets are filled.
Baskets will be available Sunday, Dec. 17 between 3:00 and 5:00 p.m. and may be picked up at a chosen church or delivered.
Baskets will include either a whole uncooked turkey, a pre-cooked turkey breast, or a pre-cooked ham, depending on what was requested. Other food items complete the menu for a traditional holiday meal.
Cash contributions to the Christmas baskets may still be given through any of the local Albany Ministerial Alliance churches or may be mailed to the Ministerial Alliance at PO Box 3084, Albany, Texas 76430.
“We always accept donations,” Chandler said. “But we are very blessed this year, and have received some generous gifts.”
